All you Need to Know Concerning Bulging Eyes
Eye conditions can sometimes reduce the confidence levels of people whenever they interact with others. This is especially the case when the condition can be easily identified as you move around. For this reason, patients end up locking themselves for fear of being the laughing stock. One condition that may make people have this feeling is bulging eyes also known as protruding eyes.
Bulging eyes come about when one or both eyes bulge out of their sockets. This protruding is mainly brought about by space taking lesion such as tissues behind the eye, fat or swelling of the muscles. For this reason, the Cornea ends up being exposed to air hence making it difficult to keep the eyes lubricated and moist. When bulging eyes is not treated earlier enough, it might lead to loss of vision since there is pressure on the optic nerve.
There are so many reasons as to why people may develop bulging eyes. These can either be natural or artificial reasons. In most cases, bulging eyes occur when one is having health complications like Leukemia, Glaucoma or Hyperthyroidism. One may also develop bulging eyes if they are diagnosed with Grave’s disease. This is a condition in which the immune system of a patient’s body produces antibodies to cells found in the Thyroid gland. With time, the Thyroid Gland overproduces Thyroid hormone hence leading to Grave’s disease.
People who have bulging eyes may experience some symptoms. In most cases these symptoms may be a sign of a different health complication. However, they should not be taken lightly as they may lead to vision loss. Some of the symptoms of bulging eyes include:
- Decrease in vision
- Protruding eyes
- Double Vision
- Pain in the eye
Most of these symptoms will come about when the immune system can no longer contain this eye complication. However, not all these symptoms will signify the presence of bulging eyes. It is for this reason that you should seek medical attention to determine the real reason behind these symptoms.
Before getting any medication, the doctor will have to perform a number of tests on your eyes. These tests will determine the type of eye condition and how long it has been affecting you. If it is bulging eyes, your doctor will have to check whether it is affecting both eyes. After diagnosing the problem, the doctor will recommend a treatment method.
In most cases, doctors may recommend using artificial tears as the method of treatment. This is especially the case when the bulging leads to severe dry eyes. With artificial tears, the Cornea remains protected. If artificial tears fail to work, you will have to undergo surgery that will restore the normal functioning of your eyes. A surgery may sometimes prove difficult to undergo especially if you cannot raise the finances. Unfortunately, this is the only treatment method that will help in handling bulging eyes. For this reason, you will have to try your level best in order to get the finances and undergo surgery.
